Responsibilities: 

• Perform thorough routine eye examination and vision testing on mobile health units
• Diagnose sight problems, prescribe corrective lenses or refer for further treatment
• Capture all clinical findings, prescriptions and referrals on software package during field visit
• Promote eye health by teaching patients about proper eye care techniques
• Monitoring prescriptions issued, ordering and delivery of spectacles
• Identification of referral channels for learners with needs beyond the scope of the mobile unit
• Training other optometrist in using the mobile equipment and software
• Monitoring performance of other optometrist and help where necessary
• Generate reports from the inhouse software
• Evaluate optometry equipment for calibration errors, servicing requirements and optimal function.
• Generating executive summaries on literature reviews
• Continues improvement and development of the optometry solution
• Preparing and presenting the optometry solution to policy makers, clients and investors.

To qualify for this role, you must be registered and in good standing with the HPCSA and a member of the South African Optometric Association (SAOA).

You must possess in-depth knowledge of eye related disorders, conditions and treatment.

The ideal candidate will have an affinity to interact with children, be customer service oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills.
