Professional Registered Nurse Palliative Care
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for palliative care to provide holistic, patient-centred care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses. The successful candidate will work closely with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality symptom management, emotional support, and care coordination within the community.
Minimum Requirements
Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Registered Nurse.
Palliative Care qualification or willingness to complete accredited palliative care training.
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualised care plans.
Provide holistic palliative nursing care, including pain and symptom management.
Coordinate patient referrals and ongoing care within a multidisciplinary team.
Liaise with healthcare professionals, hospitals, clinics, and community service providers to ensure continuity of care.
Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
Provide education and support to patients, families, and caregivers.
Participate in bereavement follow-up and refer families for additional support where required.
Manage clinical administration, reports, statistics, and medical aid motivation letters.
Assist with quality assurance, clinical audits, and compliance with nursing standards.
Participate in staff meetings, training, strategic planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
Promote awareness of palliative care within the community and support healthcare professionals through education and mentorship.
Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and professional standards relating to nursing practice and medication management.
